About Us
The Wales Office is the face of the UK Government in Wales and the voice of Wales in Westminster. The department supports the Secretary of State (SoS) for Wales and the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (PUSS) for Wales in representing Wales at the heart of Government. The department plays a central role in shaping key Government priorities and driving forward delivery in Wales.
The Wales Office works in partnership with other UK Government departments, the Welsh Government and stakeholders to deliver a stronger Wales within a strong United Kingdom.
The Role
The Director of the Wales Office is the most senior civil servant in the department and advises the Secretary of State for Wales and Parliamentary under Secretaries across the full range of their Ministerial duties. The Director will help to shape and deliver the Secretary of State's agenda and priorities: directly through the Wales Office; through other Government departments, by exercising leadership and influence across Whitehall; and through wider partnerships.
As Principal Accounting Officer for the Wales Office, the Director will also be responsible for the overall performance of the department.
This is a pivotal time for the Wales Office, which is currently reviewing its operating model, intensifying its efforts to serve as Wales's definitive voice within the UK Government while simultaneously championing the UK Government's interests across Wales and abroad.
The Office is now playing a key role in delivering the UK Government's missions in Wales. Through building relationships, making devolution work well and by focussing on four key priorities:
* Kickstart economic growth in Wales.
* Unlock Wales's green energy potential.
* Support people and public services in Wales.
* Ensure that Welsh Devolution works effectively for the people of Wales
