Security Officer

We are looking for experienced Security Officers to join our team at Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust based in Portsmouth.

As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for internal and external patrolling, CCTV monitoring, locking and unlocking of various sites, and dealing with security‑related incidents. An SIA Door Supervisor licence is essential.

We are looking for motivated and organised professionals with the ability to communicate with staff, patients and visitors to the sites. You should be confident using a computer as your role will include analysing data from the monitoring systems and reporting incidents through the Trust’s internal reporting system.

This is a full‑time position working 12‑hour shifts with an average of 37.5 hours per week (includes evenings and weekends with unsocial payment enhancements).

Main Duties of the Job

* Provide onsite security service 24/7.
* Carry out internal and external patrols of all buildings, site grounds and any other premises as may be required using the designated patrol system.
* Maintain detailed knowledge of all individual alarm systems in place throughout the Trust.
* Deal efficiently with traffic management and car park problems.
* Assist with portering duties when required.
* Act as first point of contact in the event of a fire alarm being activated.
* Ensure all security incidents are managed effectively and efficiently, giving necessary support to clinical staff and the public.
* Act as first point of contact in relation to lift breakdowns, ensuring effective release with minimum risk to trapped staff, public and patients from lifts on a 24‑hour basis with lift engineers.
* Vigilantly keep the main access roads through the hospital grounds and the main entrance areas to buildings clear; report any suspicious circumstances and help with incidents relating to vehicles.
* Monitor day‑to‑day CCTV footage in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.
* Cone and cordon off designated areas or parking bays.
* Carry out physical searches of patients, staff and visitors when required, contacting police if necessary.
* Manage incidents involving individuals manifesting aggressive or violent behaviour whether due to drink, drug, clinical, psychiatric or other reasons.

Qualifications

* SIA Door Supervisor Licence
* Valid Driver’s Licence for driving in the UK
* SIA CCTV Licence


Experience

* Previous experience in the Security Industry
* Previous experience in NHS Security
