You will be a permanent employee. You will attract a salary of £65,241 plus car and a bonus of 3%. These schemes could be for APP and Connections (non-contestable and contestable) work, following UK Power Networks design standards. The M&E Design Engineer will collaborate with the Project Manager, other Design Engineers, and the Principal Designer (CDM), ensuring compliance to design, CDM and standards for both the regulated network solutions for all customers. We ask that you satisfy the following general requirements: Undertake feasibility studies, site surveys and buildability required for M&E engineering installations. Produce M&E engineering designs that can be constructed in compliance with the relevant standards and CDM regulations. Peer-review the designs produced by other design engineers. Oversee and contribute to the production of technical, commercial, and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company procedures. Ensure compliance with design assurance and audit processes. Support and mentor trainee/graduate engineers to enhance their technical knowledge. If required, fulfil the role of Principal Designer under CDM for allocated schemes. Principal Accountabilities: Provide an excellent service to the customer. Work as a team player in a dedicated team of designers, estimators and planners. Collaborate with the operational teams to provide a smooth process from initial enquiry through to final commissioning and business closure. Collaborate with external experts if required, and develop standard designs and appropriate solutions for individual sites. Create designs addressing specific site issues. This includes providing accurate specifications for these designs. Comply with the requirements of the Designer/Principal Designer as determined by the CDM Regulations Ensure design eliminates/reduces any hazards which may give rise to risks; and reduce risks from any remaining hazards (with CDM) Ensure designs provide information about aspects of the construction or maintenance as this will adequately assist customers, clients, the CDM team, other designers, and contractors. Collaborate with UKPN designers. Qualifications: Minimum university degree in engineering/science or equivalent qualification and experience in industries or the energy sector. Chartered engineer or working towards achieving chartership. M&E engineering background and building services together with experience in utility sector. Competence in resolving subject issues and the ability to provide a sound understanding of company policies and their application to this role. Awareness and use of current and technological developments in M&E industry. Work with external engineering organisations and customers/partners representing UKPN to best effect. Good safety culture and reasonable understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application in this role including IOSH trained. Work unsupervised or under minimum supervision, set and comply with own targets, identify and implement cost-saving solutions. Good team working skills. A proficient level of business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory awareness. A general appreciation of financial reporting systems Reasonable knowledge of the ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 procedures relevant to the team's activities. Proficient in the use of Microsoft desktop applications, in particular: Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint. Proficient in written and oral communications. Understanding of site surveying and setting out. Knowledge of AutoCAD (also Bentley software applications would be beneficial) Strong organiser Knowledge of power engineering plant and equipment such as high voltage Transformers, Switchgears, Cables Input into innovative construction ideas and techniques, which feed into UK Power Networks Green Action Plan Knowledge of project management. Ensure all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements are considered in the design. Ensure safe working methods and systems are followed in the design. Contribute to the delivery of sustainable, zero carbon, innovative and high-quality design solutions for mechanical building services systems. Produce mechanical design and Design Specifications Produce drawings, schematics, documents (equipment specifications, schedules, reports) Pipework sizing calculations for LTHW, CHW, HWS, CWS, Steam, Gas, Flue, Compressed Air, Lube Oil, discriminating pumps. Knowledge of pressure relief requirements for substations, and ductwork sizing calculations, control valve sizing, heat gain/loss calculations, humidification calculation to size dehumidifiers for heating/cooling loads and respective profiles. Produce specifications for sump pumps, fans, smoke dampers, PHEs, boilers, CHPs, heat pumps, thermal stores, buffer tanks, calorifiers, fans, AHUs, chillers. Nature and Scope: You will undertake site visits as part of this role, and this will include entry to operational substations where compliance with safety rules and procedures is mandatory.
