Offer description

We are looking to recruit a substantive or locum consultant to our Community Paediatric team in Newham (up to 10 PA). The post will include the role of Named Dr for Children in Care (Looked after Children). This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team of Community Paediatricians within a forward-thinking multidisciplinary service dedicated to improving the lives of babies, children, young people, and families in East London.


Main duties of the job

The postholders will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive community paediatric services within the Specialist Children & Young People's Services, including:

* Clinical activities: Consultant clinics (Children in Care, Developmental clinics), referral triage, clinical supervision, MDT discussions, and patient meetings.
* Teaching: Contributing to departmental and medical student teaching, especially related to community child health.
* Management and leadership: Clinical supervision, governance, supervision of medical advisors for adoption, and pathway leadership.
* Audit, Quality Improvement, and Service Development.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* MB BS or equivalent
* MRCP / MRCPCH or equivalent
* BSc in a medical subject
* PhD, MD, MSc, DCH


Professional training

* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Community Child Health or Paediatrics or equivalent (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview)
* Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
* 6 months clinical experience in Community Paediatrics
* SPIN or Diploma in Paediatric Neurodisability
* CCT in Community Child Health


Clinical Knowledge

* Ability to conduct assessments for children in care
* Experience working in a multidisciplinary Child Development Team
* Management of common paediatric problems
* Up-to-date with Level 3 Safeguarding Children competencies
* Experience in Child Protection Medical Assessments
* Partnership working with Education, Social Care, and stakeholders
* Experience as Named Dr for Looked after Children or Child Protection
* Experience as Medical Advisor for Adoption and report writing for Adoption Panel
* Experience attending Child death review meetings and contributing to CDOP
* Competent with Griffiths III or similar developmental assessment tools
* Experience managing children with complex neurological and developmental issues
* Experience in autism


Clinical governance

* Completed audit projects
* Service development and Quality Improvement projects
* NHS complaint handling and incident reporting experience


Teaching

* Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
* Training as 'train the trainer'
* Current portfolio as a medical educator


Medical management

* Strong communication skills
* Supervision of Trainees/Doctors
* IT skills for NHS work
* Completed management course
* Experience as educational supervisor
* Experience in change management


Personal and interpersonal skills

* Decision-making, adaptability, resilience
* Motivated, trustworthy, ethical awareness


Communication and cultural competency

* Expressing complex issues clearly
* Empathy and cultural sensitivity
* Effective communication with families and children
* Championing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum (pro rata).
