Position Summary
R&D Engineering Services provides Facilities Management and Capital Projects delivery for Technical R&D sites within GSC’s Engineering and EHS organization.
This role will:
* Be accountable for all engineering support and services in the portfolio, delivering to the RDES footprint across medicines and vaccines. This role will be focused on EHS/Life Safety, Business Continuity and Pipeline projects within our RDES facilities.
* Be accountable for the delivery of the portfolio of capital infrastructure projects working with the capital delivery partner to plan, prioritize and deliver agreed project scopes on time and on budget.
* Build organizational capability and competence to deliver objectives, working to identify and execute value‑add projects and the appropriate development and application of standards.
* Responsible for all areas of engineering operations, statutory compliance, and Engineering staff development and deployment within the Region.
* Support Real Estate with respect to business acquisitions and due diligence assessments of the businesses.
Responsibilities
* Implement strategy, policy, and standards to deliver key RDES contracts across the region in the areas of engineering and capital projects.
* Organise RDES engineering staff to ensure effective deployment of initiatives and ways of working across all sites, ensuring GSK Global Engineering Standards and EHS Policies are deployed.
* Deliver the portfolio of capital infrastructure projects on time and on budget in accordance with the site Facility Investment Plans.
* Accountable for ensuring thorough due diligence is completed for all GSK facilities that are to be integrated into RDES.
* Uphold and ensure compliance with internal GSK policies, standards, procedures, alerts, and relevant external regulatory requirements with respect to Quality, Statutory and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.
* Accountable for the development, direction, and management of Engineering staff in the region.
* Ensure comprehensive Energy Management, Carbon Impact and Utility Cost Reduction Plans are developed and implemented.
* Own global engineering programs, policies, and procedures as required for the RDES organization.
Basic Qualifications
* Broad working knowledge of Facilities Management with specialist (discipline) knowledge in one area, e.g., Project Management, Operations, etc.
* Strong experience in an operations or Engineering leadership role with broad understanding of all engineering disciplines as they apply to managing high severity risk at R&D facilities.
* Outstanding managerial skills and leadership abilities to motivate and influence senior GSK executives and managers in a demanding and rapidly evolving environment.
* Ability to think and act strategically and initiate and engage in long term planning.
* Strong ability to act as a motivator of change.
* Acts as a role model for applying standards to ensure compliance.
* Technical expertise to communicate and manage complex, technical issues; can translate technical data, see basic relationships and articulate key messages to stakeholders.
* Displays knowledge of the Research & Development process and understands GxP requirements.
* Financially literate, manages cost centres, OPEX, CAPEX and P&L as required.
* Enterprise‑thinking to effectively direct all activities across sites and region.
Preferred Qualifications
* MSc (ideally in Engineering or Science)
* Safety Qualification and experience of Lean/Six Sigma highly desirable
* Excellent interpersonal, presentation and persuasive skills to successfully interact with managers at all levels
* Ability to think and act strategically. Experience of initiating, developing and implementing Facilities Master Plans
* Displays knowledge of Research & Development processes and has a deep understanding of GxP requirements
Work Location
This is an on‑site role based in Stevenage, UK, with flexibility for occasional remote work and travel within the region.
