Pay
Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £15.59 an hour; this increases to £16.86 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
Our policy offers a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, with the possibility of working a minimum of 12 hours for those who prefer fewer hours.
Responsibilities
- Work in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Take ownership of running duty shifts and coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well‑stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.
- Listen to customers and ensure they leave the store with what they came for.
- Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback.
- Guide and support colleagues in‑store, ensuring the space remains safe.
- Maintain understanding of store performance and assist managers in delivering actions to improve operations.
- Lead from the front, setting a great example for the team.
- Coordinate the store team to deliver an easy, fuss‑free shopping experience.
- Support colleagues, ensuring daily priorities are met and breaks are taken.
- Open and close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring safe decisions.
- Act as the go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of a manager.
- Keep the store clean, tidy, and well‑presented.
- Support managers with seasonal, community and charity events.
- Contribute to a great team atmosphere that is inclusive of everyone.
- Provide excellent customer service, listening to and meeting customer needs.
- Keep the team well‑informed and updated on communications, changes or updates.
- Be knowledgeable about store performance, looking to improve and simplify operations.
- Co-ordinate store improvements and remove obstacles to service.
- Follow health and safety routines and procedures, ensuring colleagues do the same.
- Recognise and celebrate team members providing great service.
- Act as a role model, giving thoughtful customer service and meeting all customer needs.
- Build strong, long‑lasting relationships with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive team.
- Communicate clearly, using varied methods to keep the team informed.
- Lead confidently in the absence of the manager.
- Make good decisions, stay flexible and handle change effectively for customers and colleagues.
- Motivate the team to deliver beyond expectations.
- Remain curious, seeking ideas to serve customers, communities and the planet better each day.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Ability to work shifts, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
- Experience in a retail environment is desirable but not mandatory.
- Willingness to complete health and safety training.
