We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly and dynamic Endoscopy Team at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. This post is a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.
You will play a key role in delivering safe, high quality, and person-centred care to patients undergoing a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills in areas such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, EUS, ERCP, and bronchoscopy, working within a supportive and skilled multidisciplinary team.
You will receive full training and mentorship to enhance your confidence and competence within our JAG accredited Endoscopy Unit. Main duties of the job
* Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, in line with Trust policies and national guidance.
* Undertake comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedure assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care.
* Support the Endoscopy Unit Manager / Sister in the day-to-day running of the unit by maintaining safe standards of care and escalating concerns appropriately.
* Take responsibility for the organisation and coordination of patient care for a designated group of patients during a shift.
* Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
* Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, pre-registration students helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
* To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence-based practice.
* Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the Endoscopy manager.

Education and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Adult) with active NMC registration (1st level)
* Evidence of Level 2 literacy and numeracy (or equivalent)
* Willingness to undertake mandatory and role specific training relevant to Endoscopy
* Mentorship/Practice Assessor or Teaching Qualification
* Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development
Experience
* Experience of caring for sick patients in a variety of settings. This can be whilst a student
* At least one year experience in Endoscopy
* IV/Oral drugs administration competent
* Experience assisting with advanced endoscopic procedure (e.g. ERCP, EUS)
* Experience of pre assessment/ recovery care
* Experience of caring patient(s) undergoing procedures under sedation
Skills & Knowledge
* Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills with patient, relatives and multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to deliver safe, compassionate and patient centred care in a fast‑pace environment.
* Ability to recognise and respond to clinical deterioration, escalating concerns appropriately
* Demonstrate initiative and problem‑solving skills within scope of practice
* Willingness to develop clinical and endoscopy‑specific competencies
* Competent in medicine management, including IV drug administration, with an understanding of accountability
* Willingness to undergo and develop basic IT skills training, including electronic patient records and Trust Systems
* Ability to appraise staff or willingness to learn
* Good IT skills including use of email and Microsoft ?word packages
* Awareness of JAG standards and endoscopy quality indicators
* Good IT skills, including use of email, Microsoft Word, and other Trust systems
