The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a team of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, building craftspersons, and support staff. We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual qualified in plumbing, heating, maintenance, and plant fault finding.
This rewarding role involves working under the Mechanical Estates Officer to perform mechanical maintenance and installation across NHS properties, including water systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, steam production, and medical gases. The candidate should be self-motivated, able to work independently, and communicate effectively. Flexibility to assist other trades and undertake various tasks is essential. Healthcare experience is advantageous but not required, as training will be provided.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Full apprenticeship or approved equivalent training
* NVQ Level 3, BTEC, or equivalent
* AP/CP training in relevant subjects
Desirable Qualifications:
* City and Guilds qualifications
* Certificate in Hot & Cold Water Systems (BS2/H)
* Certificate in Water Disinfection (WN18), experience with steam and pressure systems
* Experience with safe systems of work in mechanical settings
* Knowledge of Legionella control, BMS systems, hospital systems, and large-scale mechanical plant
Skills and Experience:
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
* Computer literacy
