Detention Custody Officer - Heathrow Immigration Removal Centre

Care & Custody is one of the leading providers of outsourced public services in the UK. We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring people to join our team of Detention Custody Officers (DCO).
Role and location
Specialising in custodial management services, we are responsible for managing Europe\'s largest Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), just outside Heathrow in UB7 0HB. We care for up to 1200 immigration residents providing custody services, welfare, regime and recreational activity.
Responsibilities
* Maintain high standards of security and safety while promoting the welfare and decency of residents staying at the immigration removal centre.
* Work as part of a team to deliver essential public services in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
* Provide care and support to residents, including welfare and recreational activities as part of daily operations.
* Participate in 40-hour per week shift work (days and nights) with a rolling roster across 51 weeks.
* Be flexible to work a mixture of short and long day shifts and adapt to a 24/7, 365-day operating centre.

* Working Hours: 40 hours per week (shift work covering days and nights)
* Roster: 51 weeks with a rolling schedule to help work/life balance
* Centre operations: 24/7/365
Requirements
* Must be eligible to obtain CTC clearance (valid UK passport, or EU passport with Share Code, or ILR); must have lived and worked in the UK for 3 years with no extended trips overseas and no criminal convictions
* Safety-critical role: must not be under the influence of substances that impair duties; discussion of prescribed medication during recruitment is encouraged
* We operate a random drug and alcohol testing programme; participation is a condition of employment
Qualifications and experience
* Evidence of communication skills to support colleagues and deliver a high level of service to residents; previous experience dealing sensitively with a variety of people is advantageous
Training and progression
* Initial Training Course (ITC) – 5 weeks; training is paid and forms the first day of employment (subject to full CTC clearance)
* Assessment Centre dates will be run throughout 2025 (face-to-face)
