Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Shift Engineer from either a Mechanical or Electrical background to join a dynamic engineering team supporting critical infrastructure within a Tier III+ data centre environment. This is a hands-on role requiring experience in the operation and maintenance of M&E building services systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and hands-on maintenance for all critical and non-critical M&E systems, including HV/LV systems, generators, UPS, HVAC, BMS, fire alarms, and plumbing.
Carry out PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance), reactive maintenance, and fault diagnosis across all engineering systems.
Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with company policies, procedures, and health & safety regulations.
Respond quickly and effectively to building alarms and emergency calls.
Liaise with specialist subcontractors and ensure high-quality standards of their work on-site.
Maintain detailed logs and records of activities, interventions, and inspections.
Contribute to shift handover documentation and attend daily operational meetings.
Support energy efficiency initiatives and contribute to sustainability goals.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Recognised qualifications in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent).
17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations (for electrical engineers).
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar critical environment, preferably data centres, hospitals, or high-reliability commercial sites.
Strong understanding of building services and technical systems including generators, UPS, switchgear, CRAC/CRAH units, and chilled water systems.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.
Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
Flexible and adaptable to meet operational needs.
Desirable Qualifications & Attributes:
HV Authorised Person (or working towards).
Experience using Building Management Systems (BMS).
IOSH/NEBOSH Health & Safety training.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional Information:
Continental shift pattern covering both days and nights (including weekends and bank holidays).
