The Ophthalmology department is based within the Outpatients West at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work at the Central Norwich Eye Clinic, located in Grove Road, Norwich.
An enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking, and flexible person is required to assist with the smooth running of this busy department. The postholder will be expected to provide an efficient, friendly, and welcoming service to patients at reception. The successful candidate will:
1. Provide support to the technical, secretarial, medical, and nursing staff of the Department.
2. Carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments, maintaining appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and coordinating clinics.
3. Deal with patient and staff enquiries courteously and confidentially, in person or via telephone, providing assistance as required.
4. Ensure patient safety and well-being in the waiting area and alert staff to any concerns.
5. Keep logs of telephone requests for investigations, prioritise them, and communicate messages to technical staff.
6. Maintain and prepare appointment lists for clinical work.
7. Obtain and prepare notes for clinics, investigations, or staff requests, and record the transfer of notes.
8. Understand the 18 Week Pathway, input correct RTT codes, and validate patient pathways.
9. Liaise with secretaries and other departments within the Trust to ensure availability of case notes, X-rays, and referrals, including external referrals if necessary.
