Job Description:
The Directors of Advising will provide oversight for the assigned college and advising center and ensures the quality of academic advising offered within the college. They will collaborate with campus partners to create programming relevant to the success of students in the college, organize and lead registration campaigns, continually assess strengths and opportunities for improvement in the advising office, provide opportunities for professional development with advising staff, collaborate with other advising centers on university wide advising and registration programming, and support advisors with complex advising situations. Two positions are being hired, one for the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies Advising Center, and one for the College of Arts and Letters Advising Center. Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master's Degree required
2. Comprehensive knowledge of advising theories and best practices
3. Considerable skills working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and administrators
4. Excellent interpersonal skills
5. Strong written communication skills
6. Considerable comfortability utilizing technology
7. Considerable empathy, flexibility, and a growth mindset
8. Considerable ability to work independently and cooperatively
9. Comprehensive knowledge of and commitment to higher education policies and procedures, including FERPA Ability to multitask, and prioritize tasks according to importance
10. Considerable ability to manage a team that engages in high levels of independent work with students
11. Considerable ability to collaborate as part of a team and encourage the professional growth of team members
12. Extensive experience in academic advising, coaching, or related higher education student services required
13. Extensive track record of quality leadership of a team required
Additional Considerations:
14. Master's or Terminal Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a field of study related to the specific college advising center preferred
15. Extensive track record of quality leadership of a team within a higher education institution preferred
