Main duties of the job
To lead and develop specialist psychiatry provision within Brainkinds Hospitals. To operate within a recovery model where people learn new strategies and coping mechanisms with the lifelong effects of acquired brain injury and other associated conditions. The service, like other Brainkind services, operates holistically as opposed to a purely medical /clinical model. This medical post sits within a community rehabilitation model using a bio-psycho-social approach.
To act as a positive professional role model, and to pro-actively support the clinical leadership team to achieve Brainkind Objectives.

Job responsibilities
The Consultant doctor in psychiatry will take the lead role during the stage of stabilisation where poly medications, unstable presentations, fragmented social networks of support need to be, rationalised to be more manageable and helpful for the person. They will take the lead and strategic role within the multi-interdisciplinary team providing psychiatry input within the BIRT neurobehavioural model to people with acquired brain injury.
The post will be operationally accountable to the Hospitals Registered Manager, who has access to a range of administrative and governance resources embedded at the hospital. Additionally, will be clinically accountable to the Director of Clinical Services. This post involves administration of the Mental Health Act and governance within the services.
Teaching And Training Responsibilities
To support in-house specialist teaching and training programmes supporting compassion focused approaches, the holistic neurobehavioral approach, and multiple therapeutic interventions.
To take the lead in establishing and developing associations with academic programmes or Institutes as agreed and appropriate.
To support the overall training and development of the multi/inter disciplinary team.
Reseach Responsibilities
To ensure all research is completed in line with framework detailed in Brainkinds policy.
Participation in clinical audit and research as appropriate to clinical governance.
Contributing to, or developing, specific research projects existing or to be agreed.
To undertake, any reasonable travelling requirements, in order to fulfil the tasks and responsibilities of the role.
To undertake any other duties as may from time to time be specified by Brainkind, that is within the level and responsibility appropriate to the grade of post.
To include driving Brainkinds and People We Support vehicles, ensuring People We Support activities and appointments are fulfilled.

To participate in regular training sessions, both formal and informal, on a variety of topics relevant to your role.
To attend and participate in training programmes/courses, both in the locality and other Brainkind premises and external sources, as appropriate for the role and development in agreement with your line Manager.
Attend and implement all mandatory training provided by Brainkind and be aware of other learning opportunities.

EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
You will be required to effectively manage your time to balance the demands of this role in an environment that can have unpredictable work patterns during your working time, changing priorities and frequent interruptions. You should be able to quickly and effectively adapt your working practices to meet the needs of the People We Support you are working with.
As a result of their condition or associated psychological factors, some People We Support may exhibit challenging behaviours such as swearing, disinhibited behaviour and aggression. You will need to be able to manage these behaviours with compassion and professionalism. In some settings you may also be required to use appropriate physical intervention techniques once trained and competent.
You may be required to support People We Support with personal care which may involve exposure to bodily fluids.
You may be required to support People We Support with mobility issues using approved moving and handling techniques which may include the ability to push a wheelchair or use a hoist.

Essential
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
Experience

* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register.
* Approved clinician status.
* Approved under S12.
* Excellent knowledge in specialty.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
