Job Opportunity: Porter – Healthcare Support Services
Pay Rate: £ per hour
Hours: hours per week
Shift Pattern: 5 out of 7, working 8-hour shiftswithin a 24-hour period
About the Role
We are looking for reliable, caring, and motivated Porters to join our Healthcare Support Services team at NorthDevon District Hospital. This is a vital role that ensures the safe andefficient movement of patients, equipment, and materials across the hospital,helping to keep essential services running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
* Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed between wards and departments.
* Deliver specimens, medical records, pharmacy items, and equipment across the hospital.
* Support clinical teams during emergencies, including attending cardiac arrests with the resus trolley.
* Remove clinical and non-clinical waste, linen, and recycling, ensuring safe and hygienic practices.
* Assist with patient handling and transfers, following safe manual handling procedures.
* Maintain cleanliness of porters’ lodges, equipment, and designated areas.
* Provide professional and courteous assistance to patients, staff, and visitors.
* Uphold health and safety standards, infection control policies, and confidentiality requirements.
What We’re Looking For
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills (NVQ Level 1/2 desirable).
* Previous portering or healthcare experience (desirable but not essential).
* Good communication skills and a strong customer service approach.
* Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as part of a team.
* Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks.
* Flexible to work across different shifts, including weekends.
* Professional, caring, and respectful attitude at all times.
