Job Title: Document Controller - Power & Distribution Project Location: Ipswich ((3 days in office, 2 from home) Contract: 3 month contract About the Project This role supports a major power and distribution infrastructure project in the Ipswich region, working on behalf of National Grid (NG). The project involves the design, construction, and commissioning of critical energy infrastructure, requiring strict compliance with industry standards, health & safety legislation, and client documentation requirements. Role Overview As Document Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective management, organisation, and submission of all project documentation throughout its lifecycle. You will be the central point of contact for controlling technical documents, drawings, quality records, and compliance paperwork, ensuring alignment with National Grid's requirements and internal project standards. This position involves working closely with all project disciplines, including Health & Safety, Environmental & Sustainability, Operations, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Project Management teams. You will play a key role in maintaining accurate and auditable records, supporting smooth project delivery, and ensuring documentation is always accessible, up to date, and compliant. Key Responsibilities Maintain and manage the Master Document Register (MDR) for all project documentation. Control the receipt, review, distribution, and submission of documents across all project disciplines. Ensure compliance with National Grid's documentation standards and project-specific requirements. Coordinate technical drawings, design changes, method statements, permits, and QA/QC records. Support H&S and Environmental teams by managing incident reports, risk assessments, and compliance evidence. Ensure controlled circulation of the latest approved versions of documents to all stakeholders. Liaise with internal teams, external contractors, and the client to track document status and approvals. Proactively identify and resolve documentation issues, ensuring deadlines for submissions are met. Ensure full traceability and auditability of documents throughout the project lifecycle. Support the project close-out process, ensuring accurate handover documentation is compiled and submitted. Skills & Experience Required Previous experience as a Document Controller on large infrastructure, construction, or power/utility projects. Strong knowledge of Document Control processes, Master Document Registers (MDRs), and version control. Proficient in using digital document management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Aconex, Asite, or equivalent). Ability to learn and adapt quickly to client-specific systems (National Grid systems experience advantageous). Excellent organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders. Understanding of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality documentation requirements within a regulated project environment. Familiarity with engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation in the energy sector preferred. Why Join This Project?
