Overview
Therapy Team Manager and Practice Lead Ref: 30424 – Join to apply for the Therapy Team Manager and Practice Lead role at University of Sussex.
An exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical and managerial lead has arisen in the department of Wellbeing Services (Wellbeing, Therapeutic, Residential Life and Chaplaincy). This next year we are moving into a new Wellbeing building with our campus GP practice. We are looking in particular for a mental health practitioner who has extensive experience of managing other practitioners with excellent administrative skills, within an acute mental health or therapeutic setting.
We currently provide mental health interventions for upwards of 1800 students per year, including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, psychoeducative workshops, and more proactive reach-outs and living solutions. You will be one of the Leads in Wellbeing Services, which includes Senior Wellbeing Managers, Senior Mental Health Nurses, Residential Life Managers and the Lead Chaplain. You will be expected to work collaboratively with them under the direction of the Head of Service. You will oversee caseload allocation and management, and support staff in the resolution and escalation of critical cases. This will include collaboration with wider divisional teams such as Advice & Guidance and Disability Support, in addition to the NHS. Your contribution to delivering proactive initiatives around mental health and wellbeing as part of the wider mental health strategy will be critical in the development of the service. You will review and improve all systems, processes and procedures in the team, prioritising both efficiency and risk management.
About You
Ideally, you will be a qualified, accredited and experienced therapist, social worker, mental health nurse or other mental health practitioner. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of part-time/full-time therapists, locums, trainees, psychological wellbeing practitioners and their clinical cases. You will be able to retain sufficient hours to hold your own clinical caseload if required for continued professional accreditation. Strong administrative and technological skills are needed to oversee and develop our case management systems and administrative processes with the aim of identifying smarter ways of working. An innovative, risk-conscious approach, sound judgment and diplomacy, the ability to take direction, manage people and work under pressure within a complex organisational structure are essential attributes.
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build relationships, respect confidentiality, manage effectively and navigate complex situations in a sensitive and professional manner are essential. Highly developed written and oral communication skills are required, along with a positive and flexible approach to the role and the service.
