Job Overview

Band 5 Staff Nurse (23 Hours) – Ward G9 (Cardiology)

Ward G9 is a dynamic, 20-bedded acute cardiology unit equipped with full cardiac monitoring at every bedside. We care for patients with a wide range of acute cardiac conditions including acute coronary syndromes, suspected myocardial infarctions, heart failure, and arrhythmias. Patients are admitted from various areas including Emergency Department (ED), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Acute Medical Unit (AMU), cardiac catheter labs, cardiology outpatient clinics, and other tertiary centres.

We work closely alongside our colleagues in the Coronary Care Unit and cardiac catheter laboratories, ensuring a seamless, high-quality pathway for patients requiring specialist cardiology care.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse (Band 5) to join our friendly and committed team. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and while previous experience in a cardiac setting is desirable, it is not essential—what matters most is your passion for learning and delivering excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job

To implement and be responsible for maintaining high standards of patient care.

* To act in accordance with policies and nursing procedures as per Trust policy.
* To co-ordinate the team in absence of the team leader or ward manager.
* To ensure confidentiality of patient records and high standards of nursing documentation.
* To escalate as appropriate any incidents, complaints and ward/staff issues.
* To participate in ongoing clinical supervision.
* Take responsibility for annual updates on current legislative/hospital issues.
* To ensure all training undertaken is evaluated to determine it’s effectiveness in practice and to ensure all objectives have been met.
* To assist in teaching programmes for student nurses/new staff and newly qualified nurses and contribute towards a positive learning environment.
* To promote good working relationships and to support the ward manager to achieve high morale within the team.
* Provide specialist advice in Cardiac procedures.
* To actively support in the promotion of health.
* To use all resources efficiently and effectively maintaining an awareness of budgetary implications.
* To carry out all administrative and nursing duties as delegated by the team leader and ward manager.
* Practice extended clinical roles eg venepuncture, cannulation, IV additives and male catheterisation.
