A Good-rated secondary school in Durham is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Science Teacher to join their successful Science department on a maternity cover basis from March 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them develop a passion for science, strong analytical skills, and confidence in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Role Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Science lessons in line with the national curriculum
* Teach across KS3 and KS4, with the ability to deliver one or more science specialisms at GCSE level (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
* Create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and independent learning
* Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all learners, including those requiring additional support
* Monitor pupil progress, assess learning, and provide constructive feedback to support achievement
* Prepare students for internal assessments and GCSE examinations, ensuring they feel confident and well supported
* Contribute to curriculum planning, resource development, and the continued success of the Science department
* Support extracurricular activities such as STEM clubs, science fairs, or enrichment sessions where appropriate
Requirements
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
* Experience teaching Science at KS3-KS4
* Strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (specialism welcomed)
* Excellent classroom management, communication, and organisational skills
* A genuine passion for inspiring students and raising achievement in Science
