We are currently seeking an Architect to join our Architecture and Design team based in Braintree. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an Architect looking to develop their career within a collaborative, technically strong and supportive consultancy environment.
The Role
As an Architectat Barker Associates, you will be responsible for projects across RIBA Stages 2–6, working closely with clients and internal multi-disciplinary teams. You will take ownership of allocated projects, with appropriate autonomy and responsibility, supported by senior colleagues and clear opportunities for career progression.
Key Areas of Responsibilities Will Include:
* Lead the day-to-day architectural delivery of small to medium-sized projects across education, commercial and residential sectors.
* Act as the primary architectural point of contact for allocated projects, liaising directly with clients, consultants, contractors and internal teams.
* Develop, coordinate and deliver design proposals from concept through technical design, ensuring alignment with client briefs, statutory requirements and agreed programmes.
* Produce and oversee high-quality technical drawings, specifications and schedules for planning, building regulations, tender and construction stages.
* Coordinate architectural information with structural, civil, MEP, sustainability and surveying disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
* Prepare and manage statutory submissions, including planning applications and building regulation packages.
* Support procurement and construction activities, including preparation of tender documentation, responding to contractor queries, RFIs and attending site inspections.
* Attend and contribute to client meetings, design team meetings, planning consultations and site meetings.
* Apply sound technical judgement to ensure compliance with current Building Regulations, British Standards and industry best practice.
* Manage workload effectively to meet agreed quality, fee and programme targets, identifying and escalating risks where appropriate.
* Provide technical guidance and mentoring support to junior team members and contribute to internal design reviews and quality assurance processes.
* Actively engage with sustainability and low-carbon design principles in line with Barker Associates’ commitment to responsible development.
Requirements
* ARB registered Architect with RIBA Part 3 qualification.
* 1–3 years post-qualification experience, with demonstrable experience delivering projects across RIBA Stages 0–7.
* Strong technical background with experience in detailed design and construction delivery.
* Proficient in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite.
* Good design skills with the ability to develop concepts into robust, buildable solutions.
* Confident, client-facing approach and experience working within multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience of NBS Chorus.
