About the role
NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate is seeking a permanent Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for Mental Health services in North‑East Fife. The role involves managing a caseload of patients within inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, providing specialist pharmacy support and advice to patients, carers, families and multidisciplinary teams.
Key responsibilities
* Provide independent prescriber support (where qualified) and pursue independent prescribing training where required.
* Oversee safety of prescribing, administration and governance of medicines, particularly high‑risk medicines in inpatient mental health services.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to develop pharmaceutical care plans and ensure safe, appropriate, and clinically effective use of medicines in line with national and local guidance.
* Work across specialist mental health teams and cross‑sector colleagues, including community mental health teams, primary care and community pharmacies, to deliver patient‑centred and seamless care.
* Support service development, quality improvement initiatives and educational supervision of pharmacy staff and wider multidisciplinary team members.
* Travel as required throughout Fife to support service demand, with a primary base at Stratheden Hospital, Cupar.
Qualifications and requirements
* Independent prescribing qualification or a willingness to undertake training to become an independent prescriber.
* Registered pharmacist with experience in mental health pharmacy practice.
* Demonstrated knowledge of medication governance and high‑risk medicine management.
* Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams across hospital and community settings.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and participation in peer‑support networks for independent prescribers.
* Prior to appointment, membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is required.
* Valid right to work in the United Kingdom or eligibility to be sponsored.
