Overview
Rochester Independent College is seeking a full time Residential Head of Boarding to start in January 2026 or earlier. Founded in 1984, Rochester Independent College is a day and boarding school offering a fresh alternative to traditional independent education for students from the age of 11 to 19 and boarders from 13. RIC is part of the Dukes Education family of schools and Colleges.
The Head of Boarding will be an experienced senior leader whose professional career to date shows exemplary commitment to boarding education. The postholder will demonstrate inspirational senior leadership with the vision, presence, and foresight to develop and enhance the boarding provision. The postholder will be responsible for overall management of boarding at RIC, ensuring that it is a caring, nurturing, and supportive environment dedicated to the wellbeing and education of students. The post holder will lead on overall pastoral and operational systems in boarding, setting and maintaining policy. The primary responsibility will be ensuring that the National Minimum Standards for boarding are exceeded consistently and constantly in boarding practice.
The post holder will be a highly visible leader with the charisma to inspire and motivate the different constituencies which make up the RIC boarding community. They will be an empathetic relationship-builder with a sophisticated understanding of how to work effectively in a fully residential environment with multiple stakeholders, achieving excellence in all aspects of provision, including safeguarding.
Responsibilities
* Provide overall management of boarding provision at Rochester Independent College, ensuring a caring, nurturing, and supportive environment focused on wellbeing and education of students.
* Lead on pastoral and operational systems in boarding; set and maintain policy to exceed National Minimum Standards for boarding.
* Demonstrate inspirational senior leadership with vision, presence, and foresight to develop and enhance the boarding provision.
* Act as a highly visible leader, inspiring and motivating diverse stakeholders within the boarding community.
* Ensure safeguarding and welfare of boarders through effective policies, practices, and safeguarding compliance.
Qualifications / Skills
* Proven experience as a senior leader in boarding education.
* Strong ability to build relationships in a fully residential environment with multiple stakeholders.
* Empathy and effective relationship-building skills with a sophisticated understanding of safeguarding and welfare.
* Ability to develop and implement pastoral and operational systems, and to maintain high standards of safeguarding and wellbeing.
