JOB TITLE Pitting & Enabling Operative

About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and safety-conscious Pitting & Enabling Operative to join our geotechnical site operations team. This vital role supports the mobilisation and preparation of drilling sites, ensuring they are safe, accessible, and ready for core drilling activities. You’ll be instrumental in enabling works such as trial pit excavation, service avoidance, vegetation clearance, and site logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Preparation & Enabling Works
* Hand-dig trial pits and inspection holes to identify underground services.
* Use CAT & Genny tools to detect and avoid utilities.
* Clear vegetation and prepare ground for drilling access.
* Establish access routes and manage site traffic.
* Set up exclusion zones with fencing and signage.
Operational Support
* Assist drilling crews with mobilisation and equipment handling.
* Manage materials and support efficient site logistics.
* Handle and transport soil and material samples.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
* Follow all safety protocols and wear PPE.
* Participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks.
* Report hazards and incidents promptly.
* Support environmental protection measures.
Equipment & Asset Management
* Inspect and maintain tools and equipment.
* Conduct daily plant checks and report defects.
* Safely operate excavation and lifting equipment.
What we’re looking for:
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Sentinel/PTS Certification (or willingness to obtain)
* Parliamentary Pass and BPSS Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
* Full UK Driving Licence
* CSCS Card
* Street Works Certification
* Plant Operator Certification (e.g., mini-excavators, dumpers)
Desirable
* NVQ Level 2/3 in Construction Operations or Groundworks
* First Aid Certification
* Asbestos Awareness Training
* CAT & Genny Training Certification
