Critical Care and Critical Care Outreach Team Education Lead

About the role
The post holder will be based within Adult Critical Care/CCOT and work flexibly across campuses as required. The role provides comprehensive leadership on clinical education, assessment of competence, and the delivery of evidence‑based practice for Adult Critical Care staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Clinical duties
o Lead the development of staff and foster empowerment through knowledge.
o Oversee the orientation of new staff and starters to the organisation and CCOT.
o Promote reflective practice, clinical supervision and experiential learning.
o Demonstrate evidence‑based specialist skills in the care of critically ill patients.
o Support staff rotating through Adult Critical Care and CCOT including Maternity and ED.
* Managerial duties
o Ensure delivery of care aligns with policies, procedures, guidelines and Trust practices.
o Manage the Education team, addressing personal and development needs.
o Provide continuing professional development for all staff, students and elective placements.
o Maintain the mandatory training database for the Education team.
* Infection Control
o Maintain a clean, safe environment and minimise infection risks.
o Implement the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare‑Associated Infections.
* Safeguarding
o Support the Trust’s commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
* Information Governance
o Ensure accurate record‑keeping and compliance with NHS and Health Records policies.
* Health and Safety
o Take reasonable care to prevent injury and cooperate with Health and Safety policies.
o Report any accidents or dangerous incidents promptly.
o Use protective clothing and equipment where provided.
* Governance
o Participate in governance activities to maintain high standards of care and conduct.
* Health and Wellbeing
o Encourage staff to look after their physical and mental health and support wellbeing activities.
* General Policies, Procedures and Practices
o Comply with all Trust policies and keep up to date with changes.
* Working Conditions
o Work in unpleasant clinical environments, handle potential violence and support ward teams.
o Work on Adult Critical Care units as required and comply with health and safety procedures.
Training & Qualifications
* Current level one NMC registration
* Relevant post‑basic qualification in Critical Care specialist pathway (ENB 100 or equivalent)
* Academic learning at Level 3 or equivalent
* Introductory management course
* NMC Mentoring Course
* Degree in health or nursing studies (or equivalent)
* Masters in health or nursing studies
* Formal leadership and management training or course
Experience
* Critical Care knowledge and clinical practice
* Leadership, management and time‑management skills
* Experience in an education role at Band 6
* Delegation, support and supervision of all staff
* Project involvement and audit/research work
* Effective written and verbal communication skills
* Minimising interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication
* Staff appraisal and performance management
* Development of professional development and action plans
Analytical Skills
* Understanding of the Education Lead role in Critical Care
* Effective response to problem situations and interventions
* Knowledge of current NHS policy issues
Planning and Organisation
* Implementation and monitoring of local action plans to improve practice and meet objectives
* Resource management and additional responsibilities (e.g., Trust/Corporate member, national forum, benchmarking)
