The Trauma and Orthopaedic Team has a new exciting development opportunity for a Senior Orthopaedic Practitioner to join the team.
The role would be suitable for a senior Registered Nurse or Allied Health Care Professional with experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics who is keen to develop competencies and skills in this highly specialised area.
The successful candidate with work alongside the Foot & Ankle Consultants in orthopaedic clinic reviewing and treating foot and ankle fractures and/or associated wounds working as an autonomous practitioner.
The role will consist of working within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department managing clinic patients at York Hospital and Clifton Park Clinic. The patients attending clinic will be both adult and paediatric, therefore knowledge and experience of both disciplines would be advantageous.
This is a highly satisfying, but demanding role and it is essential that candidates are extremely motivated, proactive, dedicated and have experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job
8. Responsibility for the management of a defined caseload of patients with foot and ankle concerns attending clinics at the Orthopaedic Outpatient Departments.
9. Continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinic patient treatments and the setting of standards of care based upon NICE/BOA guidelines.
10. Interpretation of x-rays and managing the ongoing care of patients in alignment with best evidence based practice.
11. If working as a non-medical prescriber, to initiate and prescribe treatment and evaluate its clinical effectiveness.
12. Undertake audit activity and lead on the implementation of service development plans
13. Provide clinical leadership within the multi-disciplinary team and provide training for junior members of the team
14. Escalation of clinical concerns to the appropriate Lead Orthopaedic Consultant

Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
23. Significant post qualification with experience at a senior musculoskeletal or specialist nurse level
24. Experience in working in a multidisciplinary team
25. Clear understanding of other disciplines roles and expectations
26. Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education
27. Recognised clinical teaching/assessment qualification
28. Experience in research methodology, audit and service development
29. Experience in treating and managing highly distressed patients in groups and individual settings
30. Advanced knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of complex conditions demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning
31. Understanding the role of Orthopaedic Practitioner within the current environment
Desirable criteria
32. Actively involved in teaching to the multidisciplinary team
33. Evaluating and auditing the effectiveness of training
34. Evidence of presentation of own research locally/nationally/internationally

36. Expert knowledge of the mechanisms and treatment models for orthopaedic conditions

38. Able to present information, written and orally in a clear and logical fashion

Essential criteria
40. Degree/diploma in relevant healthcare profession
41. Health Professions Council or equivalent registration
42. Masters level or equivalent in specialist area or evidence of significant practical experience
43. Evidence of CPD – reviewing current practice and research developments within the musculoskeletal arena and application to clinical practice
Desirable criteria
44. Postgraduate publications in musculoskeletal arena.
