Database Administrator
Purpose of Role:
Working as part of an in-house DBA team, the primary objective is to oversee and maintain all aspects of Cromwell's database estate. This encompasses our on-prem UK & Global business operations and supporting a steady migration into cloud hosted solutions. This role further consists of supplemental data engineering duties in support of data and process management.
To be successful in this role, hands on experience with PostgreSQL is essential. A data engineering ability is a distinct advantage.
Responsibilities:
* Database Management: Manage and maintain the organization's databases, ensuring their availability, security, integrity, and performance.
* Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup and recovery processes to protect data against loss or corruption.
* Security: Enforce database security policies and access controls to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.
* Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and configurations for improved efficiency.
* High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Implement strategies for high availability and disaster recovery to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
* Patch Management: Apply database patches and updates to address security vulnerabilities and improve stability.
* Capacity Planning: Forecast database growth and plan for additional capacity requirements to accommodate future data needs.
* ETL Development: Develop and maintain Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to integrate data from various sources into the organization's data warehouse and lake.
* Data Pipeline Development: Build data pipelines to automate the flow of data between systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Previous commercial experience as a DBA in a multi-tech database environment.
* Proven track record in managing large deployments, DR and HA database environments.
* A good understanding & hands-on experience of Linux OS (Red hat).
* Extensive experience of PostgreSQL:
* Proven experience of HA & DR configurations.
* Excellent ability in supporting & creating SQL code.
* Useful to have experience of using Pipeline & ETL tools such as Snap Logic, Talend or MuleSoft:
* Ability to handle data in various formats (CSV, XML & JSON)
* Familiarity with API integration & data mapping.
