Overview
An opportunity has arisen in our Community Mental Health Team for a Head of Service to oversee the social care component of the service. Our mental health service comprises two CMHTs, an Early Onset Dementia Team, and an Early Intervention Team. As the Head of Service, you will oversee the principal managers to manage these teams, providing operational and social work practice advice. You will have overall responsibility for the Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) function and will need direct experience of this statutory work. You will also have responsibility for managing the social care and staffing budget, as well as the performance of your service. The Head of Service role plays a key part in the Local Authority management structure, and you will be expected to lead development and improvement work in the service. It is essential that you have experience of leading on change and development.
This role will involve remote/hybrid working, with some days in the office required.

Responsibilities
* Oversee principal managers and manage CMHTs, Early Onset Dementia Team, and Early Intervention Team.
* Provide operational and social work practice advice and ensure all social work staff comply with statutory guidance and good practice.
* Manage the Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) function and have direct experience of this statutory work.
* Manage social care and staffing budgets and monitor service performance.
* Lead on development and improvement work within the service and participate in Local Authority management structure.
* Authorise support plans to ensure outcomes are met and value for money for commissioners.
* Develop and implement new ways of working to improve outcomes for people.
* Ensure supervision, appraisal, and training of staff are up to date and manage staffing budgets and team performance metrics.
* Contribute to meetings with the Local Authority commissioner’s senior leadership team and participate in internal governance structures including contract meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Direct experience of AMHP statutory work and an understanding of the Mental Health Act.
* Experience in leading on change and development within a social care or health services setting.
* Ability to manage budgets, performance metrics, supervision, appraisal, and training for staff.
* Experience working within Local Authority and governance structures.
