JobTitle: Principal Naval Architect(Weights)

Location: Barrow-In-Furness, Brough, Filton, Frimley, Manchester,Portsmouth, Weymouth

Salary: Competitive What you’ll be doing:
* Lead the collation strategy for mass properties data todeliver weight and centroid control on multi billion poundsubmarine programmes
* Responsible for aggregating weight and centroid reports,presenting the status to Chief Naval Architect and generatingmitigation plans
* Define and manage the mass budgets for submarineprogrammes and its breakdown to systemlevel
Support submarine seatrials Create and maintain acomprehensive database of parts massproperties Promote a culture of weightcontrol and work with system engineering to integrate weight as afundamental designconstraint Conduct Research andDevelopment activities, promoting BAE Systems interests at UK andInternational Conferences Perform conceptual parametricestimations for mass distributions and moments of inertia whilstdriving the development of methods and tools for mass propertiesestimation Provide Subject Matter Expert(SME) reviews of weight control methodologies for non-submarineprogrammes within the BAE Systemsgroup

Your skills andexperiences:

Essential
* Degree qualified in an Engineering or Mathematicssubject or equivalentexperience
Ability to work independentlyand provide technical leadership as part of theteam Experience of weight management
Desirable
* Chartered Engineer or ability to achieve Charteredstatus within a 12-month timeframe
* Experience of weight control on largeprogrammes
* Experience working with large, complex Electrical orMechanicalsystems
Experience using VBA or Pythonto automate data manipulationtasks Experience of using CADpackages andprogrammes

The Weight Engineeringteam:

The Weight Engineering Team area multi-disciplinary Team of Engineers and Data Scientists whoestimate, collate and present mass properties data for a number ofmulti billion pound submarine programmes. The Weight Engineeringteam are a specialist team who play a critical role in the wholeboat design and assuring whole boat safety. We offer relocationsupport packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meetingeligibility criteria.
