We are looking for Consultant Acute Physician with passion and drive to further develop and deliver our Acute Medical services. The successful applicant must have full GMC registration and hold a Licence to Practice. The applicant must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine with a specialist interest.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a passion to improve patient care, have strong communication skills, be an excellent team player and value training and education. The proposed AAC date is 11.11.2025.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to:
* Be actively involved in leadership, management and decision making within the Department
* Be readily available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely
* Ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients with complex needs
* Liaise closely with the Divisional and Service Managers, and the Associate Medical Director, to ensure waiting list targets are achieved
* Share with Consultant colleagues the responsibility for providing clinical services for the local population
* Foster relationships between staff within the organisation and with local Clinical Commissioning Groups
* Work flexibly to achieve high-quality care
* Ensure that policies for communication with General Practitioners, Trust staff and patients are followed
* Ensure optimal use is made of all resources allocated to the post
* Cover Consultant colleagues during periods of leave

Job description
The post is offered at 10 programmed activities (PA). Under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity. A typical timetable will include DCC sessions on AMU, SDEC and the virtual ward. We are open to discussion in relation to a flexible timetable to work slightly longer days to support a non-working day. An annualised job plan is also a possible option to further support flexible working.

Qualifications
* Full Registration with the General Medical Council and a Licence to Practise
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
* MBBS or equivalent
Experience
* Essential: Extensive experience in Acute/General Internal Medicine
Desirable: Other specialties considered; Respiratory Medicine, Care of the Elderly/Frailty, Diabetes or Rheumatology
Ability and other qualities
* Leadership within a multidisciplinary team; effective communicator; excellent interpersonal skills
* Flexibility of approach; commitment to clinical risk management and clinical governance
* Effective team leadership
Audit, Research and Teaching
* Experience in clinical audit and research with publications; commitment to evidence-based practice
* Accreditation as Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors; commitment to teaching and continuing professional development
Other
Full driving licence; ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff at all levels; meets professional health requirements (GMC Good Medical Practice).
