Meet the Job
This is a challenging position where you will be exposed to a variety of environments and technologies within different teams in R&D.
Being a System Engineer at Backbase means taking ownership of your projects and enabling our teams to set up their environments from testing to release. You will analyze specific situations and needs, providing documented guidelines for implementation. You will advise on security standards and performance optimization.
You will design, develop, and oversee the implementation of solutions that enhance the stability, scalability, availability, and latency of our product. At Backbase, we focus on providing solutions rather than workarounds. You will work closely with R&D Engineers, providing valuable input to improve our product through collaboration with our R&D teams.
This role requires in-depth knowledge of the current SDLC used by Backbase, best practices, trends, and related technologies, along with an interest in new tools.
How about you
* 5+ years of experience in a similar role;
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience;
* Proficiency in English, both written and spoken;
* AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or similar certification is a plus.
Functional/technical skills
* Experience in developing custom solutions for systems monitoring, deployments, continuous integration, etc.;
* Designed and/or built mission-critical services (large-scale internet or cloud-based services);
* Strong software development background with Java, Spring, and Maven;
* Experience with shell scripting, Java, and Python programming;
* Expertise with Linux/Unix systems;
* Experience with configuration management tools (preferably Maven, Ansible);
* Experience with continuous integration servers (such as Bamboo, Jenkins, TeamCity, GoCD);
* Knowledge of cloud-native deployments on Kubernetes (EKS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift, or bare metal) and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
R&D
* Understanding of systems monitoring, alerting, and analytics tools (e.g., NewRelic, Cacti, Graphite, Log Stash, Nagios, Ganglia);
* Proven experience with production systems and handling production issues;
* Extensive knowledge of automation tools;
* Experience deploying to application servers such as Jetty, Tomcat, JBoss, Websphere, and working with relational and NoSQL databases;
* Experience with Agile development methodologies;
* Insightful opinions about systems architecture;
* Experience with Helm Charts, Npm, Node, Maven, Python, Flask, Jinja2, REST, Git, software testing, CI/CD tools, domain-specific languages like Chef, Ansible, Salt, Puppet, deployment and configuration, static code analysis, security considerations, Docker, Kubernetes, and deploying mobile apps and pipelines.
