An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join our dynamic and growing Acute Oncology Nursing Team as a Macmillan Nurse Consultant. We are looking for a highly skilled acute nurse with advanced skills who has experience in oncology and A&E, and is passionate about, delivering high quality cancer care, specialising in Acute Oncology. The Acute Oncology team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells comprises of a team of Acute Oncology Nurse Practitioners, CNS's, support worker and navigator who work across both sites at Maidstone Hospital and Pembury. To date the team's achievements, include implementation of a 7-day service, working together to support patients with complications of cancer treatments, and cancer related issues, promoting early recognition, management and early supportive discharge.
The advertised role has been developed following recommendations from the Kent & Medway Cancer Alliance Acute Oncology Improvement Report and the wider Oncology Review and is aligned to National recommendations for the need for AOS Clinical Leadership, collaborative working and engagement with improved working practices and equitability between Cancer Centres and District General Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
The job will involve working as an autonomousadvancedpractitioner with nurse led clinics, collaboration across Kent & Medway teams, service development with standardised education programme, defined pathways to improve patient outcomes, experience and ensure an equitable and accessible 7-day Acute Oncology Service. The role of Acute Oncology Nurse Consultant will be subdivided into 50% focus across K&M for strategic leadership and innovations such as development of planned Oncology SDEC within AOS and 50% patient/clinical focus based at MTW providing clinical with outpatient, AO assessment unit and supporting complex inpatient caseloads as required; providing responsive expert service.

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.
Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2‑week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Qualifications Essential
* Current 1st level registration with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council
* Educated to Masters level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area
* Clinical Examination & Consultation
* Non-Medical Prescriber Qualification
* Specialist-specific professional qualifications commensurate with role
* Evidence of post qualification and professional development within cancer care
Desirable
* Willingness to undertake Maters Qualification, if not already achieved
* Has, or intends to develop, formal education links with a Higher Education Institute
* Formal educational or teaching qualification

Experience/Knowledge Essential
* Recent senior clinical practice at expert level within acute and specialist settings
* Proven advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in Haemato-oncology/acute oncology

* Understanding of recent policy initiatives and developments in cancer care
* Excellent presentation skills for conveying complex concepts
