Overview

The College is seeking to appoint a high performing Clerk to support the Full Governing Body. Clerks are governance professionals who are skilled at organising others, embracing changes in education, and committed to their role. The Clerk will provide advice and guidance on governance, constitutional and related matters, and will deliver effective procedural and administrative support. You will help ensure the governing body operates within the law and regulatory framework, and you will occupy a key communication role within the governance triad of Chair of Corporation, Principal of Notre Dame, and the Governing Body. You should demonstrate core competencies of ethical conduct, probity, and striving for excellence in all you do.


Responsibilities

* Provide advice and guidance to the governing body on governance, constitutional, and governance matters.
* Deliver highly effective procedural and administrative support.
* Confirm that the governing body complies with legal requirements and regulatory frameworks.
* Communicate effectively within the chair-principal-governing body triad.


Qualifications

The successful candidate should have one of the following qualifications or be willing to study towards one of them:

* The Education and Training Foundation's qualifications for governance professionals
* Certificate in charity law and governance
* A legal or paralegal degree or diploma
* An advanced corporate governance qualification

Experience in other governance roles could include:

* FE colleges, academy trusts, universities, or other large charities
* Public bodies such as NHS trusts
* Experience with a regulator or professional body concerned with governance standards

It is essential to be reliable, able to work flexible hours, and available for all Board meetings and associated events. This role is predominantly evening work to cover approximately all Committee and Full Corporation meetings per year. Meetings typically start between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. The role can be partly carried out from home, with access to a computer, home printer, and internet; a College workstation is also provided.

* Evening commitments with potential partial remote work; essential IT access.
* Role may evolve to reflect changing needs of the College and the post holder’s development.
