Role Purpose
To provide safe, effective, and professional over-the-counter (OTC) advice and pharmacy services to patients while supporting the dispensary and retail operations in line with GPhC standards, NHS contractual requirements, and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The post holder must hold (or be working towards) an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services / Medicines Counter Assistant qualification.
Key Responsibilities
1 Patient & Customer Care
* Greet patients professionally and provide excellent customer service.
* Provide safe OTC advice using the WWHAM questioning technique.
* Identify red flags and refer appropriately to the pharmacist.
* Support delivery and promotion of NHS services such as:
* Pharmacy First
* Blood Pressure checks
* Smoking cessation
* Contraception services
*
* Provide healthy living and self-care advice.
2 Medicines Counter Duties
* Assist with the sale and supply of pharmacy medicines under supervision.
* Ensure all sales comply with legal and ethical requirements.
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
* Follow Responsible Retailing guidelines.
3 Prescription Support
* Receive prescriptions and check for completeness.
* Enter prescriptions onto the PMR system.
* Support dispensing workflow (labelling and assembling under supervision).
* Promote EPS nominations.
* Assist with stock ordering and control.
4 NHS & Private Services Support
* Support the promotion of clinical and private services.
* Assist with patient registration and documentation.
* Record service data accurately on relevant systems.
* Encourage eligible patients to access pharmacy services.
5 Stock & Retail Management
* Conduct date checking and stock rotation.
* Maintain clean and organised retail areas.
* Replenish shelves and monitor stock levels.
* Report near-expiry or damaged stock.
6 Compliance & Governance
* Follow all SOPs and policies.
* Complete mandatory training requirements.
* Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR.
* Report incidents, errors, and near misses.
* Support preparation for inspections.
Professional Requirements
* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or enrolled).
* Strong communication skills.
* Basic IT skills.
* Good organisational ability.
* Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
