This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 10 years and obtain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you have been recruited for. If it isn't obtained or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining DV security clearance can be a lengthy process. If clearance isn't obtained within 12 months, we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. The tour length will be 3 Years The successful candidate will spend at least 3 months working with the UK Team before they make the move overseas. Are you an Engineer with experience in digital engineering and/or integration of weapons with military platforms? The F-35 programme is the world's largest single defence programme and we have a unique opportunity to be at the heart of the digital revolution of development efforts to maximise the 5th generation capabilities of the F-35 Lightning. This role covers a broad range of technologies including integration of advanced weapons and countermeasures with cutting-edge mission systems and sensor fusion. Your work will have significant impact as you will be supporting the delivery of capability that front-line pilots across the international F-35 Lightning enterprise need to be lethal, survivable, and interoperable in even the most contested and dangerous operating environments. As the Integration Engineer you will have responsibility for anticipating, tracking and reporting on aircraft integration issues throughout the lifecycle of the program. You will have a major focus on supporting the application of digital engineering approaches to the development, test, and certification activities for all nations. You will provide advice and expertise to support leadership in both the US and the UK enabling timely informed decisions on requirements, capability, and fielding. This position provides opportunities to demonstrate and extend the UK's reputation and influence on the programme through the contribution of valued expertise, develop engagement and communication skills with senior US and UK leadership and broaden your defence knowledge through exposure to cutting-edge defence capabilities. The F-35 program is the world's largest single defence programme with the US and seven other partner nations, you will be expected to travel regularly within the USA and international travel to the UK and Australia may also be required. As an overseas assignment the role is full time only and with a tour length of 3 years, working out of the F-35 Joint Program Office headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, USA. Prior to moving overseas the successful applicant will initially spend at least three months in post in the UK prepare for the role, gaining a baseline understanding of the F-35 international program and UK Lightning Delivery Team processes from the teams in Bristol and RAF Marham. For security reasons this role is open to sole UK nationals only. A 'sole UK national' refers to an individual who holds citizenship solely in the UK, without dual citizenship or nationality from another country. The Lightning Delivery Team (LDT) is responsible for procurement and support of the UK's F-35 Lightning aircraft, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter. The UK has played a major role from the outset in the System Design and Demonstration phase, resulting in significant contracts and jobs for UK industry. The Lightning Delivery Team operates under the Production, Sustainment, & Follow-on-Development (PSFD) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Annex C of the MoU defines the need for Cooperative Program Participants (CPP) resourced from Partner Nations, to work within the Joint Program Office under the US Government. Those in Cooperative Program Participants roles work for the US Government, whilst maintaining UK MoD responsibilities and UK CPPs remain employees of the UK MoD under UK T&Cs. Living in the Northern Virginia area Arlington, Virginia borders Washington DC and is home to museums such as the Smithsonian institutions, the National art galleries, and the National Mall, which contains the Lincoln, Washington, and Jefferson memorials. Outside of work, living in this area provides great opportunities with many theatres and concert venues, a global food scene and throughout the year, DC hosts multiple festivals and parades, including Independence Day, Memorial Day, and the Latino festival. Public transport is good, with the DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia) having an extensive bus and subway system (Metro) reaching out into the suburbs of Virginia and Maryland with a Metrorail station directly servicing Crystal City. New York is 3 hours by train and the region's three airports provide an extensive choice of domestic and international flights. The post is supported administratively by the British Defence Staff at the British Embassy. They provide assistance in sourcing accommodation (based on family size & needs) within reasonable commuting distance and act as point of contact for healthcare and education issues along with general queries. The overall standard of living in the area is excellent and assistance is provided through a cost of living allowance (COLA) paid with salary. The amount of COLA allotted is dependent on family circumstances/size and accommodation and most utilities are provided at no cost to the post holder. What you'll be doing Support the F-35 Program's Digital Engineering efforts to expedite the integration of missions systems and weapons capability onto the F-35 Lightning within the current Block 4 Sub-Program and beyond. Supporting and influencing the program as it evolves so that beyond-Block 4 capability is delivered efficiently, effectively, and affordably by leveraging modelling & simulation and other digital engineering techniques. Monitoring the development of Mission Systems and weapons integration from requirement to implementation to ensure that the UK understands risks, opportunities, and associated impacts to cost, schedule, and capability. Assisting the Lightning Delivery Team Software, Mission Systems, and Weapons teams as required and appropriate. Collaborate closely with UK Cooperative Program Persons (CPP) including the Weapons Engineer, Systems Engineer, and Software Engineer.
