Job Summary
The post holder will provide podiatric care in patients’ homes, community clinics and nursing homes. This is a permanent full‑time post (37.5 hours) based at Leigh Health Centre but working across all three areas. The role requires the post holder to be able to travel independently across the Trust as this is a community‑based position.
NHS experience is essential (via employment, placement or volunteering). An enhanced DBS with Adults’ Barred list check will be obtained during pre‑employment checks.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate podiatric care to patients with a variety of medical and podiatric problems.
* Deliver foot‑care education and advice to patients, relatives and carers.
* Carry out nail surgery procedures.
* Perform baseline biomechanical assessments.
* Carry out annual diabetes assessments in all clinics using electronic foot assessment forms, detailed foot assessment and appropriate diagnostic equipment, identify risk factors, categorise patients into specific risk bands and make referrals to other services when required.
* Refer on to other health‑care professionals when appropriate through agreed pathways.
* Perform cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation and administer adrenaline for anaphylactic shock if required.
* Manufacture and fit chair‑side appliances such as insoles and silicone devices.
* Follow departmental and Trust policies, assist in developing and implementing procedures and guidelines, and use clinical guidelines while exercising professional judgment within boundaries.
* Maintain, rotate and order clinical stock; carry out clerical duties when necessary; carry out other duties as required in line with role banding.
Professional Development
* Maintain registration with the Health Professional Council (HCPC) and adhere to the HCPC Code of Conduct, Trust policies, procedures and the Patients Charter.
* Actively participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and individual performance reviews with the Podiatry Team Lead.
Person Specification
* Essential Qualifications: Diploma/Degree in Podiatric Medicine (or equivalent) and registration with the Health Professions Council; Local Analgesia Administration Certificate (or integrated into degree course).
* Essential Experience: NHS experience and reflective practice.
* Essential Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to perform CPR; high manual dexterity for intricate clinical work; good organisational and time‑management skills; ability to produce detailed, accurate records.
* Essential Knowledge: Sound practical and theoretical knowledge of podiatric management.
* Additional: Diplomacy in difficult situations; ability to work independently and as part of a team; flexibility for short‑notice timetable changes; ability to travel between sites within a reasonable timeframe; proficiency in English with confidence and accuracy.
Other Requirements
* Enhanced DBS with Adults’ Barred list check.
* Travel independently across Ashton, Wigan and Leigh.
* Work Monday to Friday with some evening shifts.
