Responsibilities
We seek to appoint an enthusiastic Paediatrician with general skills, expertise, and confidence to manage a wide variety of acute and chronic paediatric and neonatal conditions. The post offers opportunities to develop a special interest to complement the department's needs. A special interest in epilepsy, oncology, or cardiology would be desirable; however, other interests are welcome. You will join a friendly, experienced, and supportive team of consultants.

Experience and On-Call Responsibilities
Relevant experience in General Paediatrics and Neonatology is essential. The appointee will participate in the consultant on-call rota, typically 1 in 6.8 nights and weekends. To enable work within a 10 PA contract, departmental job plans may include days without scheduled activities.
The department operates on a 7-week rota. The appointee will participate in consultant of the week duties for 2 weeks, covering Paediatrics and Neonatal respectively, with 5 weeks dedicated to clinics, administration, specialty work, clinical supervision, and teaching. The on-call consultant is responsible for stabilizing sick children and neonates before transfer to tertiary intensive care units, including ventilation of premature babies.
Additional Responsibilities
The post involves undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, guideline development, clinical governance, patient safety, and audit activities. The department hosts up to four students from Edinburgh University and two paediatric middle-grade trainees from the West of Scotland Deanery.
Qualifications
All candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register. Candidates should hold a CCT, be within 6 months of obtaining it, or be an established Consultant.
Additional Expectations
You will work with local managers and colleagues to ensure efficient service delivery, adhere to NHS Dumfries and Galloway policies, and ensure staff involved in patient care can contact you or know whom to contact. You will also contribute to management and policy implementation.
