Associate/Associate Director Sustainability Consultant (Building Services)
Join WSP as an Associate/Associate Director Sustainability Consultant and help deliver sustainable building solutions on high‑profile projects. This client‑facing role will support our Property and Buildings business in achieving net zero operational energy, embodied carbon, and broader sustainability targets.
A Little More About Your Role
* Lead sustainability for a diverse portfolio of projects and act as the “sustainability lead”.
* Develop the approach for sustainability across significant portfolios and major frameworks.
* Increase WSP’s profile in the industry, secure new work and improve the quality and technical knowledge of sustainable design.
* Undertake business development activities including attending B2B meetings and industry events, leveraging existing client relationships across the UK.
* Understand and support client briefs in sustainability matters, translating aspirations into practicable delivery models.
* Coordinate sustainability delivery across design teams and stakeholders internally and externally.
* Identify opportunities for cross‑selling services and collaborate with WSP experts in other teams.
* Support the growth of the existing team through recruitment and development of staff.
* Prepare high‑quality reports that clearly and concisely communicate issues and conclusions.
* Understand and apply current and proposed UK sustainability legislation to project solutions at all governance levels.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
* Understanding and experience in Net Zero, Low Carbon Design, and materials.
* Experience as a sustainability consultant, leading sustainability assessments.
* Proven track record of driving design teams to maximise sustainability including sound assessment skills and delivering multiple assessments to certification.
* Knowledge of the construction process and the associated implications of sustainable design.
* A proven champion of sustainability who has led and encouraged behavioural change throughout the business.
* A driver of innovation and best practice, who has clearly communicated benefits to colleagues and clients.
* Bid support – supported work winning/bidding with business and commercial acumen.
* An understanding of BREEAM and other environmental assessment methodologies.
* An understanding of thermal modelling and low‑carbon energy strategies.
* An understanding of current planning policies across the UK – in relation to sustainability and Net Zero Targets.
* Effective communication of complex technical information to clients both inside and outside the business.
* Presentation skills and time management.
* Co‑ordinate and provide training to junior consultants.
* Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
Qualifications
* Degree in engineering, environmental, architectural or sustainability related subject.
* Membership of a related professional institution and on the way or already “Chartered” either engineer, scientist or environmentalist.
