Job description
The role of the Senior Management Accountant is to support the production of monthly management accounts in accordance with Government Accounting principles, with responsibility to deliver transparent and realistic budgets and forecast for specific areas of business.
There will be responsibility for In-year financial management, adding value to the numbers by ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data, that financial risks, issues and opportunities are captured and monitored and that a clear narrative is provided on the financial position which reflects a sound understanding of the business supported and its objectives.
The role holder will provide leadership, strategic direction and ensure effective service delivery. This will involve dealing with greater complexity and ambiguity, for example, in navigating a path to provide insightful management reporting from disparate datasets and uncertainties in the operating environment. Drawing out the story from the data, explaining what the numbers are demonstrating and highlighting whether there is cause for concern or a need to act.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Support the preparation, and presentation of in-year financial information into the monthly financial reports.
2. Lead on the interpretation of in-year financial information from the monthly financial reporting pack.
3. Provide assurance on integrity of information on financial systems, advising on the correct accounting treatment of complex transactions.
4. Provide financial analysis and insight, through meaningful variance analysis commentary including risk management, mitigating actions, deep dives, or financial modelling.

Essential skills and experience
6. Experience of producing monthly management accounts / financial reports.
7. Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders Finance Business Partners, Governance, senior budget managers (CSLs).
8. Good coaching and leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team.
9. Ability to effectively negotiate with stakeholders.
To thrive in this role, you have experience of working to a monthly management accounting timetable, for example; meetings with budget holders, general ledger accounting for accruals / corrections and forecasting. You have experience of utilising facts and evidence to aid negotiation and influencing, for example forecasting, business cases and decision making.
You are a confident communicator and can deliver sophisticated financial concepts to a varied audience, both verbally and in writing.�

Additional Information
This role can be based in ,�,�, or, �where presence at one of these sites will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you.
There will be occasional travel required with this role to other DVSA locations, including overnight stays.
We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this.
Whilst we welcome applications from candidates looking for part-time work, there is a business requirement for the successful candidates to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Qualifications
Up-to-date membership of one of the UK accounting bodies (CIMA, CIPFA, ACCA or ICAEW) and either fully qualified, or part qualified with a commitment to complete the qualification.
