The Company
A specialist engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke Electron Beam and Laser Welding systems for advanced manufacturing applications. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are expanding their electrical and systems engineering capability.
This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-precision capital equipment in a technically challenging environment.
The Role
This is a senior-level Electrical / Controls Systems position with responsibility across the full machine lifecycle - from concept design through to commissioning.
You will work closely with mechanical design engineers and development teams to deliver robust, compliant and high-performing machine control systems.
Key responsibilities:
1. Electrical control system design (schematics, panel layouts, BOMs)
2. PLC programming (Siemens and/or Allen Bradley preferred)
3. Motion control and servo integration
4. HMI system development (PC-based systems advantageous)
5. Machinery safety system design (EN / relevant standards)
6. Integration of electrical and mechanical systems
7. FAT support and commissioning
8. Technical support to service and customers where required
9. Project reporting into Engineering Director
This role suits someone comfortable working autonomously in an SME environment.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
10. Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical / Electronic / Control Engineering
11. 6+ years' experience in industrial automation or special purpose machinery
12. Strong electrical design capability (Eplan preferred)
13. PLC programming experience (Siemens or Allen Bradley)
14. Experience working on bespoke machinery or capital equipment
15. Understanding of machinery safety and relevant standards
Desirable:
16. Motion control / CNC system exposure
17. Experience with Wonderware, LabVIEW or PC-based HMI systems
18. Commissioning experience
19. Multi-disciplinary project experience
