Registered Manager – Children’s Home
Parallel Parents is hiring a Registered Manager for a Children’s Home in the West Midlands, England. Applicants should be ready for an active, long‑term commitment and are expected to manage the home in full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Salary: Up to £58,561.55, inclusive of basic salary (£40,211.60), occupancy bonus (up to £11,009.97), appraisal bonus (up to £7,339.98), mileage and subsistence allowance.
Qualifications and Experience
* Level 5 Diploma in a relevant field, or equivalent, or willingness to work towards a Level 5 Diploma.
* Experience in children’s home management or a related position.
Important: Trainee Managers will undertake the following responsibilities, as appropriate to current qualifications and experience, under the supervision of a Registered Manager. Managers awaiting approval by Ofsted but already responsible for the Home(s) will be responsible for all the duties and responsibilities detailed below, in their entirety.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure overall compliance of the Home with suitable legislation, regulations, and responsible authority guidelines, including Health & Safety, COSHH, Fire, and Equal Opportunities legislation.
* Keep abreast of new legislation and communicate changes to staff; amend policies and procedures or produce new documents as required.
* Ensure care is provided in accordance with the Statement of Purpose and Function (reviewed at least annually) and meets the children’s needs.
* Administer and supervise staff and resources effectively, delivering the best possible child care through leadership, resourcefulness, and an appropriate management style.
* Monitor recruitment and appointment systems, working with the HR team to select, interview, and complete application packs for new recruits.
* Develop a written development plan for the Home, reviewed at least annually, identifying required staff development and resources.
* Display and communicate the Ofsted Inspection Report to staff, children, parents or significant others, and, on request, placing authorities.
* Take timely, appropriately agreed action regarding Ofsted Inspection reports and Internal Monitoring (Schedule 6/Reg. 44) reports.
* Annual Health and Safety risk assessment of the Home and its environment, producing an action plan for medium to high-risk areas, and communicate the plan to staff and children.
* Maintain the Home’s daily log of events and report to Ofsted and the Director/Responsible Individual; make reports available to children, parents, and placing authorities upon request.
* Participate in the organisation’s Management Meetings and lead the Home Team Meetings, ensuring appropriate recording.
* Prioritise, encourage, develop, and maintain Family or Significant Other contact in line with placement or LAC Care Plans.
* Induct, support, supervise, review, develop, and communicate with staff to meet the Statement of Purpose and Function, National Minimum Standards for Children’s Homes, and Investors in People standards, maintaining appropriate records.
* Consistently apply equal‑opportunity principles to children, parents, and staff.
* Safeguard and promote individual rights, providing good quality care free from oppression and respecting differences.
* Promote therapeutic relationships between staff, young people, and families, encouraging participation in daily home life.
* Ensure staff and child records meet legislative data protection and confidentiality requirements.
* Develop and maintain good relationships with neighbours and community, including resident meetings where possible.
* Notify relevant bodies of significant events and internal bodies as required.
* Contribute to practice and behave in a manner that promotes positive marketing and development of Care Today / Parallel Parents.
* Provide cover to other full‑time staff during holidays and sickness.
* Remain accountable to the Directors/Responsible Individual, who may request additional duties at their discretion.
* All job‑specific terms and conditions will be included in the confirmation of employment letter or contract.
Matters to be Monitored (Schedule 6 – Regulation 45)
* Compliance in relation to each child placed in the Children’s Home, with the placement plan and the placing authority’s plan for the child’s care.
* All accidents and injuries sustained in the Home or by children accommodated there, as well as any illnesses of children accommodated in the Home.
* Complaints in relation to children accommodated in the Home and their outcomes.
* Any allegations or suspicions of abuse in respect of children accommodated in the Home and the outcome of any investigation.
* Recruitment records and conduct of required checks of new workers.
* Notification of events.
* Any unauthorised absence from the Home of a child accommodated there.
* Use of any measures of control, restraint or discipline in respect of children accommodated in the Home.
* Medication, medical treatment and first aid administered to any child accommodated in the Home.
* To be personally responsible for anti‑oppressive care practices.
* In the case of a qualifying school, the standards of educational provision.
* Daily menus.
* Visitors to the Home and to children in the Home.
* Duty rosters of persons working at the Home, and the rosters actually worked.
* Records of appraisals of employees.
* Minutes of staff meetings.
* Risk assessments for health and safety purposes and subsequent action taken.
* Fire drills and tests of alarms and of fire equipment.
* The deposit and issue of money and other valuables handed in for safekeeping.
* The Home’s daily log of events.
