Outreach Lead Nurse - Neonatal Operational Delivery Network

Closing date: 29 April 2026

We are looking to recruit an Outreach Lead Nurse to work across the East of England Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. The role will support the NHS Long Term Plan by helping to standardise neonatal outreach services to the BAPM framework, embed Family Integrated Care and improve outcomes and experiences for babies and their families.


Main duties of the job

You will work strategically across the network to review, develop and standardise neonatal outreach services. The role involves leading service‑improvement projects, supporting quality‑improvement initiatives, translating audit and gap‑analysis findings into tangible improvements, and championing Family Integrated Care across neonatal, community and multidisciplinary teams.

You will use strong communication, leadership and influencing skills to engage stakeholders, manage complex workstreams and contribute at the network and organisational levels.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
* Master’s degree or evidence of study at Master’s level


Experience

* Managing services and staff at a senior Band 6 or 7 level
* Experience of quality‑improvement projects and delivering tangible improvements for patients
* Neonatal specialist qualification (experience at senior Band 6/7) or equivalent professional qualification
* Knowledge of and experience in outreach services
* Track record of leading or developing outreach services
* Evidence of teaching staff, students and parents
* Experience of undertaking research
* Experience of translating audit findings into care improvements
* Leadership course or recognised qualification
* FINE Foundation Toolkit course or equivalent


Knowledge

* Knowledge of current national developments and trends in health care
* Knowledge of national and local educational drivers and agenda
* Evidence of specific work with parents and families
* Level 3 safeguarding training
* Understanding of a variety of project‑management tools and their application


Skills

* Effective communication and interpersonal skills
* Political awareness
* Ability to lead and contribute positively to team working and development
* Ability to manage and prioritise workload
* Resilience
* Ability to motivate and influence
* Articulate and confident communication
* Evidence of coaching/mentoring or leadership skills/qualification
