Overview
Biomedical Scientist/Specialist Biomedical Scientist roles with the Tees Valley Pathology (TVP) service, delivering Haematology and Blood Transfusion work across multiple hospital sites. Candidates should be HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with appropriate experience, knowledge and skills to join the scientific team and contribute to the TVP service operating from University Hospital North Tees and Hartlepool Hospital, Stockton on Tees, Hartlepool Hospital, The James Cook University Hospital (Middlesbrough), and the Friarage Hospital (Northallerton).
Candidates for the Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) role should be HCPC registered, hold an IBMS Specialist Portfolio, and have experience working across core and non-core hours in their chosen discipline. Depending on qualifications and experience, applicants may be considered for the Registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 5) level if newly qualified HCPC candidates are working towards these qualifications.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and analyse pathology specimens and provide technically accurate results. Be professionally accountable for the interpretation of patients’ results to enable diagnostic and treatment decisions for clinical colleagues.
* Provide specialist knowledge and assistance to support diagnosis and treatment within the area of responsibility.
* Work with senior staff to support the integration of Haematology into Pathology from staff, IT and technology perspectives.
* Work across TVPS attending all sites as necessary.
* Have specialist knowledge of all sections of the service and participate in delivering research and development within the service.
* Participate in training and development of new, trainee or support staff.
* After training, participate in the out-of-hours rota including late shifts, nights and weekends.
Qualifications and Experience
* HCPC state registration.
* IBMS Specialist Portfolio (for Band 6).
* Experience working across core and non-core hours in haematology/pathology disciplines.
* Willingness to rotate through sections to gain broad experience.
Locations and Rotation
* Sites include University Hospital North Tees and Hartlepool, Hartlepool Hospital, The James Cook University Hospital (Middlesbrough), and the Friarage Hospital (Northallerton).
* Rotation through all sections within the chosen department.
Training and Development
* South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to new staff, including a four and a half day Leadership and Quality Improvement Programme.
* Programme aims to explore NHS leadership, promote Trust values and behaviours, develop leadership effectiveness, and provide quality improvement skills to champion, lead and complete improvements in role.
* Options for further in-house courses, bite-sized programmes, and leadership apprenticeships at levels 3, 5 and 7 are available.
