Job Overview

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Community Support Engineer to join our Digital Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in providing exceptional IT support across our hospital sites in Frimley, Ascot and Wexham. As part of the Desktop Support Team, you will act as a second‑line technical support specialist, ensuring timely and effective resolution of IT issues and contributing to the continuous improvement of our digital services. You’ll be instrumental in helping our teams deliver outstanding patient care through reliable, modern technology.

Initially, you will focus on supporting equipment deployment at our new Diagnostics Centre at Frimley Park Hospital, before transitioning into a broader community support role. We’re looking for someone proactive, customer‑focused, and ready to make a difference in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.


Main Duties of the Job

* Resolve technical faults efficiently for users allocated to the Desktop Support Team.
* Deliver an excellent standard of customer service and maintain clear communication with users throughout issue resolution.
* Manage and prioritise incoming support tickets in line with service level agreements and Trust policies.
* Install, configure, and support a range of IT hardware including PCs, laptops, tablets, printers, and scanners across multiple Trust sites.
* Participate in the on‑call rota to provide out‑of‑hours IT support.
* Develop and maintain accurate documentation of Digital Services processes and procedures.
* Support and contribute to projects involving Desktop Support elements, working with the Project Management Office to meet agreed deliverables.
* Take ownership of the community support rota and ensure effective coordination of technical support across locations.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, demonstrating professionalism, adaptability, and a commitment to continual improvement.

About You

You will be an organised and proactive problem solver, with a passion for technology and supporting people. You’ll need:

* Experience in desktop or IT support within a large organisation, ideally within healthcare or the public sector.
* Strong technical knowledge of IT systems, hardware, and software support.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer‑focused approach.
* The ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple sites.
* A commitment to personal and professional development.


Qualifications

* Degree level qualification or relevant experience.
* Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician.
* Relevant experience equivalent to desirable Microsoft qualifications.


Experience

* At least 4 years’ experience of working in an IT/user support environment.
* Significant experience of PC hardware, operating systems and applications software including configuration, delivery and installation of PCs, monitors, terminals, printers and peripherals.
* Good estimation skills in being able to assess time required to undertake technical tasks and form plans based on this information.


Knowledge

* Detailed knowledge of Windows 10/11 Desktop Operating Systems.
* MS Windows Server 2012 onwards and support tools.
* Desktop Thin Client (UMS).
* MS Active Directory.
* Mobile Device management.
* Microsoft O365.
* LAN/WAN technologies.
* Understanding of the Data Protection Act, Security and Confidentiality awareness.
* ITIL Methodologies.


Desirable Criteria

* Other Microsoft professional qualifications e.g. MCP, MCSE.
* Network+ certification.
* ITIL Foundation Exam.
* Experience of working in NHS / Healthcare services.
