About the Role
The Orthopaedic Department at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC is seeking a full-time orthopaedic surgeon to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to live, work and play in the Kootenay Rockies. The five surgeons on staff provide general orthopaedics, hip/knee arthroplasty, upper extremity and sports surgery coverage. The team seeks candidates with an interest in general community orthopaedics.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide general orthopaedics, hip/knee arthroplasty, upper extremity and sports surgery.
* Participate in call – average 1 resident for every 5 surgeons.
* Attend hospital‑based cast clinic (one day a week) with two certified cast technicians.
* Possibly share or set up own office space.
Eligibility & Priorities
* Successful candidates must possess or be eligible for FRCSC certification in orthopaedics or equivalent.
* Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
* Fellowship training in arthroplasty, trauma, lower extremity/foot and ankle is an asset, but priority is group fit.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will work as a locum for a determined period to become familiar with the team, work site, and community before final decision.
Compensation
* Fee‑for‑service – estimated gross billing $425 (before rural incentives).
* Rural fee premium of 14%.
* Rural retention flat fee $14,076.
* Relocation bonus: $9,000 within BC, $12,000 within Canada, $15,000 internationally.
* Recruitment incentive $20,000 for full‑time.

* Rural CME funding: up to $1,800 for first 2 years, $4,800 in years 3–4, $7,800 after 4 years.
