Job title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Power & Propulsion) Location: Scotstoun (On site)
Salary: Up to £45,000 dependent on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
Participate in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need
Carry out specialist technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability
Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained
Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team
Support the Principal engineer as the specialist point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids
Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development
Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
Extensive experience within an engineering or Marine related industry
Either degree qualified in a STEM related discipline or as a highly experienced individual with substantial mechanical work experience in the marine industry
Desirable:
Abilities such as effective verbal and written communication, along with experience and proficiency in software applications like MS Office, AutoCAD, Foran, etc.
Experience working with and/or designing Marine Propulsion equipment
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered

Our Power & Propulsion Team:
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specialising in Power & Propulsion, you will be part of a team heavily involved in the construction of naval ships for the Royal Navy. Your role will entail regular presence on the ship to support equipment installation through to commissioning, contributing to a small, specialised department with minimal turnover. The team collaborates on multiple ship programs, spanning multiple ships, with additional engagement in export contracts.
