OUR VALUES IN ACTION Care and Compassion • Quality and Teamwork • Dignity and Respect • Openness, honesty and responsibility Deputy Director of Finance – NHS Borders Agenda for Change Band 8C £83,837 - £89,866 per annum (pay award pending) This post offers an exciting opportunity to join NHS Borders as Deputy Director of Finance, working closely with the Director of Finance to develop the Health Board’s financial services in support of a new organisational strategy which aims to sustain and improve the delivery of healthcare services for the population of Scottish Borders. About the Role As Deputy Director of Finance you will provide expert advice to senior leadership and the Board on technical accounting matters and provide support to the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee and the Endowment Board of Trustees. You will lead the functions of the finance directorate, including payroll and procurement, instilling a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring delivery against the directorate’s performance objectives. You will be responsible for statutory and financial reporting, including production of the Board’s annual accounts, and will work closely with internal and external audit, counter fraud services, procurement and the Board’s legal advisors to ensure that there are effective systems in place for compliance and assurance. What we are looking for We are looking for an individual who brings a blend of experience and enthusiasm, with strong technical accounting skills and substantial post qualifying practical experience at senior management level in a large complex organisation, preferably within the NHS or other public sector organisation. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their commitment to leading and developing teams, planning and implementing systems of internal control, and an ability to evaluate and prioritise workload using a risk-based approach. About the Board/Region NHS Borders is responsible for the provision of health services to the population of the Scottish Borders. The Scottish Borders is one of the least densely populated areas within mainland Scotland with a population of around 116,000 people spread across over 4,700 km 2. Our services cover primary care, community, mental health, maternity and acute healthcare. Facilities include a district general hospital (Melrose), four community hospitals, and more than twenty other separate health centres and other facilities. Our new organisational strategy sets out the Board’s strategic vision and our aspirations for how we will strengthen the delivery of high quality, efficient and effective health services to meet the needs of our population. In this role you will work closely with senior leaders to develop the supporting infrastructure, processes and financial plans which will enable delivery of this vision. Other Relevant Information This post is suitable for hybrid working. The main base of work will be in Newstead, Scottish Borders.
