Job Description
To support the continuing expansion of IDIADA activities in the UK, we are seeking a Vehicle Test Engineer to join our team.
This role will be based in Nuneaton, United Kingdom, and it will be responsible for working on vehicle testing project activities on both open road and proving ground environments. The role covers a wide range of vehicle functionalities including, but not limited to: ADAS, Vehicle Durability, Field Operational Testing, Electric Vehicle Chargers, Infotainment Systems, Brakes, Vehicle Dynamics, Connectivity, and Automated Driving.
The main tasks of the role include:
1. Discussion and confirmation of technical requirements with the customer, including communication throughout the whole test program from project conceptualisation through to delivery.
2. Leading the complete testing project execution, including:Discussion and confirmation of technical requirements with the customer up to proposal releaseTest project planning and coordination within the team/customer, including the definition and arrangement of vehicle logistics, test location booking, test route/programme, sample preparation and preparation, operation and data acquisition execution according to the defined procedures and data analysis, validation and reporting.
3. Test preparation: coordinate the required test preparation tasks, such as vehicle inspection, instrumentation, together with test drivers and/or technicians.
4. Test execution: lead test execution according to the defined procedures and specifications, including coordination of test drivers and/or technicians, liaison with test location management…
5. Test data collection, validation, analysis and reporting according to test/customer procedure requirements. Concern analysis and troubleshooting supported by IDIADA experts.
6. Support business development activities.
7. Ensure alignment with corporate procedures in terms of the management of the project, test samples, test equipment/facilities, quality, OHS, logistics, outsourcing/purchasing…
8. Executing and/or supervising hands-on automotive and mechanical jobs related to chassis, engine, body, bracketry fabrication…
9. To flexibly support other related activities as required by the business.
10. On occasion, supporting non-UK-based testing might be required by the company (eg at IDIADA’s proving ground in Spain).
Qualifications
Desired profile
11. University engineering degree, preferably with Automotive specialisation.
12. Substantial background in automotive technology and vehicle systems, preferably with around 3-5 years’ experience.
13. Good knowledge of the UK road network and testing infrastructures nationwide (ie proving grounds).
14. Available to travel within the UK and abroad as per project requirements.
15. Must have a full manual UK driving license. Having a test-driving qualification is an asset, but training will be provided as required.
16. Experience with test equipment use ( sensors, data acquisition, driving robots, ADAS platforms) and management ( calibration) is also an asset.
17. Proactive and thorough hands-on engineer able to work efficiently both within the team and alone.
18. Relevant experience in vehicle Durability, ADAS, Brakes or Vehicle Dynamics testing is an asset.
19. The ability to be flexible and responsive to customer needs is essential.
20. Dynamic, focused, dedicated and self-motivated with a high level of initiative and a problem-solving mindset.
21. Good experience in MS-Office.
