The Role
Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint a full time, permanent Lecturer in Family Law to join our forward thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School that seeks to embed its values in all that it does: Challenge; Social Justice; Compassion; Wellbeing; Excellence; Responsibility; and Respect.
We are looking for a passionate researcher in the area of Family Law. Your research should engage with socially relevant and important questions that address current and future problems. A willingness to collaborate across legal fields and disciplines is also desirable. An ability to contribute to the teaching of at least one of the foundational legal knowledge subjects is also essential.

Interviews are expected to be held week commencing 22 September and the successful applicant will be expected to commence their role on January 5 2026.

Key Accountabilities
Teaching & Learning
1. To provide high quality research led teaching activity
2. To supervise dissertation students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level (commensurate with experience)
3. Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor
4. Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with university standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
5. Contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
6. Provide education for life, that engages, challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated
Research
7. Conduct research that demonstrates international standards of excellence in terms of originality, significance and rigour
8. Contribute to the research profile of Newcastle Law School by publishing high quality outputs
9. Pursue external funding commensurate with experience
10. Potential to demonstrate impact by developing research-based solutions to real-world problems and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work
11. Supervise PGR (postgraduate research) students commensurate with experience
Other
12. Operate as an active and present citizen in the Newcastle Law School community
13. Have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and an understanding of how individual behaviour can contribute to a positive research and education culture
14. Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support your area of teaching, research and/or engagement
15. Take responsibility for a defined citizenship or leadership role
16. Contribute to the wider work of the School, Faculty and University through input to project teams, working groups and committees
17. Ability and skill to develop sustained relationships, including with internal colleagues, external partners and organisations
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
18. Expertise (teaching and research) in the area of family law
19. Experience of designing and delivering high quality teaching and learning material, resources and activities for students making effective use of technology to enhance learning
20. A developing national/international research profile
21. Ability or potential to develop and secure research funding
22. Evidence of ability to contribute to the research community of the Law School
23. Ability to supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate students’ research projects
24. Excellent written and oral communication skills
25. Excellent organisational, time management and presentation skills
26. Demonstration of successful team working
27. Personal resilience in a context of change and fast paced environment
28. Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
Qualifications
29. A good LLB Honours
30. PhD (or equivalent) at or near completion (strictly within 3 months of submission at time of application) in a relevant subject
31. HE teaching qualification or equivalent experience (Desirable)
