We are partnering with a well-funded, science-driven biotechnology company entering a pivotal phase of growth. With a differentiated platform and multiple discovery programmes advancing in parallel, the organisation is now seeking an experienced Project Leader to take end-to-end responsibility for cross-functional research assets from target validation through to candidate nomination.
This is a highly visible role with direct exposure to executive leadership and real influence on portfolio strategy.
You will act as the single point of accountability for discovery programme strategy, integration, and delivery, leading matrix teams across biology, chemistry, DMPK, translational sciences, data science and external partners.
This is not a coordination role, it is a scientific and strategic leadership position where your decisions will shape asset value and portfolio direction.
Key Responsibilities
Lead integrated discovery programmes from target identification to candidate nomination
Define target product concepts, success criteria, and milestone-driven development plans
Drive data-led go/no-go decisions and portfolio alignment
Represent programmes in governance and senior leadership forums
Build and manage high-impact cross-functional teams in a matrix environment
Oversee external collaborations (CROs, academic groups, strategic partners)
Implement proactive risk identification and mitigation strategies
Ensure delivery against timelines, resources, and critical path objectives
What We're Looking For
PhD (preferred) with extensive drug discovery experience in biotech/pharma
Proven track record progressing assets to candidate nomination
Strong understanding of:
target validation
lead optimisation
early translational and biomarker strategy
Experience leading cross-functional discovery teams
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-accountability biotech environment
Strategic mindset with the ability to make clear decisions under scientific uncertainty
Natural influencer who can lead without formal authority
