Location:
Cornwall office (with the possibility of flexible working options)


Salary:
£35,000–£45,000 (depending on experience)

Monday–Friday, 9–5 (flexible)

About us

Marengo is a leading communications consultancy, focusing on political and community engagement in the property sector. Our clients range from housebuilding, retail and commercial through to renewables and infrastructure.

Established in 2017, we have offices in Bath, Cornwall and London. We pride ourselves on our unique company structure – the 'hourglass model' – which means the day to day running of client accounts is led by senior members of the team with support from a bank of professional support staff. We simply don't employ junior account handlers.

We're looking for

Marengo Communications is looking for a passionate and driven
Marketing & New Business Manager

to help grow our client base and strengthen existing relationships. You'll lead marketing efforts, support business development and play a key role in positioning our services with the right audiences. This is a hands-on role, perfect for someone who enjoys combining strategy with execution and is confident working across both new opportunities and ongoing client partnerships.

Job Description

* Lead marketing activity to promote strategic communications, public affairs and political engagement services
* Work with the company directors to identify and develop new business opportunities within the property and planning sector
* Help the team build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to support retention and identify growth opportunities
* Manage digital content and campaigns that reflect Marengo's expertise and successes
* Strengthen brand visibility across relevant channels and audiences
* Work closely with senior management to ensure marketing aligns with client needs and objectives
* Keep up to date with political, policy, and sector developments to ensure our work reflects current issues and priorities for clients
* Monitor the effectiveness of marketing and business activity, using insights and client feedback to improve performance
* Work with the company leadership to ensure that there is appropriate representation for Marengo at events, forums, and client meetings
* Lead and manage Marengo events, from identifying opportunities to planning and executing initiatives that drive engagement and support business objectives
* Track competitor activity and sector trends to identify risks and opportunities

Experience, Skills & Personal Qualities

* Proven experience in marketing and business development, ideally within political, community engagement, or communications sectors
* Solid understanding of marketing strategy, campaign delivery and brand positioning
* Ability to stay informed on sector and policy developments and apply insights effectively
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and compelling content
* Confident in working independently and seeing tasks through to completion
* Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
* Organised and able to manage multiple priorities effectively
* Collaborative, with experience working with senior management
* Detail-oriented with strong planning and time management skills
* Demonstrates a genuine interest in community development and political engagement

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

* A degree (or equivalent experience) in marketing, communications, politics or a related field
* A minimum of 3–5 years' experience in marketing, business development or communications roles
* Experience working with or alongside public sector, political or community engagement businesses
* Experience planning and delivering marketing campaigns across multiple channels
* Familiarity with using marketing performance data to refine and improve campaigns
* Experience contributing to industry events, forums, or networks
* Track record of managing client relationships and improving visibility to attract new opportunities
* Comfortable working with senior management to share ideas to help shape plans and direction
* Able to manage both planning and delivery aspects of marketing and new business activity

Person Specification

We're looking for someone who brings a mix of strategic thinking, hands-on marketing experience and a genuine interest in political and community engagement. This role requires both initiative and collaboration, strong communication skills and an ability to understand what matters to clients in complex, often sensitive sectors.

: Proven experience delivering campaigns across multiple channels with strong understanding of strategy and brand positioning.

: Track record of identifying opportunities, supporting growth and raising visibility in target sectors.

: Skilled in building and maintaining strong client relationships and representing the company externally.
- Content & Digital Skills

: Excellent communicator with experience creating compelling content and using digital marketing tools effectively.
- Sector Awareness

: Knowledge of, or strong interest in, political engagement, public affairs or community development, with ability to apply sector insights.
