We are looking to recruit a passionate and committed individual to join our Swansea Drop In Youth Team to support the delivery of Swansea Youth Work sessions. EYST is high intensity work environment were dynamic and enthusiastic colleagues can thrive whilst making a real impact in the lives of others.

Job Title: Sessional Youth Worker (* Female)

Hours of Work: 1 evenings per week 4-7pm – 3 hours a week

Salary: £12.60 per hour

Tenure: Fixed term contract until 30th September 2025

Responsible to: EYST Strategic Youth Lead

Responsible for: Volunteers, Children & Young People

(*This is a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with the Equality Act 2010)

An enhanced DBS will be required for this role

Right to work evidence required

Aims of the Post

1.
To work directly with young ethnic minority people in Swansea, in particular young people aged 11-18
2.
To work as part of a team running the EYST After School Youth Drop In Centre organising activities in a fun and safe environment (including virtual and face to face in accordance with changing Covid regulations)

Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties

1.
To help to organise, plan and deliver youth club sessions and other project activities including trips and workshops, ensuring they are inclusive and participative.
2.
To provide one-to-one support to young people accessing the project
3.
To support the involvement of young people in all project activities, ensuring their safety, well-being, enjoyment and dignity.
4.
To work as a team with other project workers and volunteers to ensure the safe delivery of all project activities.
5.
To facilitate effective feedback and consultation mechanisms for young people to contribute to project development
6.
To ensure the collection, entry and return of information as required for monitoring and evaluation
7.
To take part in training, meetings and regular supervision as required
8.
To work within relevant health and safety legislation
9.
To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity and an inclusive approach at all levels
10.
To ensure that Safeguarding and all other relevant policies are implemented
11.
To uphold the confidentiality of information of clients
12.
To ensure administrative and financial systems are effectively maintained
13.
To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be required

Person Specification

1.
Paid or unpaid experience of working with young people from the target group
2.
Knowledge, understanding and empathy for issues affecting children and young people from ethnic minority backgrounds.
3.
Knowledge of the ethnic minority communities of Swansea
4.
Experience of working with statutory and voluntary organisations, and knowledge of local youth opportunities including education, training and employment support
5.
Passion to help to identify and access opportunities for YP, and to help YP reach their potential
6.
Knowledge or understanding of barriers preventing YP accessing opportunities
7.
Understanding of substance misuse, gambling and gang culture
8.
An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities,
9.
Ability to enthuse and mentor young people
10.
Good communication and interpersonal skills
11.
Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding issues
12.
Lived experience of the issues the project seeks to address
13.
IT skills with the ability to learn new systems to monitor project activity
